Welcome to my website! My name is Cherry Lacsina and I am 28 years old. I am from the island of Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands but I have been living in Honolulu, HI for over 10 years now. My husband, Alvin, and I just got married last October. We love to eat, cook, travel, play softball and volleyball, read (mostly me!), and watch Netflix.
I graduated with my BA in Philippine Language and Literature and my MEd in Educational Administration in Higher Education but I am also interested in becoming a certified financial planner. I want to help myself, my family, and others understand our personal finances, pay down our debt, and build a secure financial future. It’s important to me that I find a way to bridge my higher education background with financial planning so I can help other first-generation and low-income students like myself access and graduate from college without incurring debt.
Moreover, I am a first-generation American, as my parents moved here from the Philippines, so I understand the tension between culture, family, American society, and finances. I want to be able to teach financial literacy to families in a way that is respectful to their culture, their education, their families, and their backgrounds. I want to make personal finances easier to understand so that things like retirement, investments, mortgages, etc are more accessible to people like me, my parents, my family, and my friends.
I also want to use this website and a background in financial planning to help me and my husband earn money, pay down our debt, and build a stable financial future for our family.
I encourage you to follow my blog because I am creative in finding ways to save money. I will find tidbits of information that most people will never thing about or consider. I love looking through sales, reading articles, researching online, and listening to audiobooks about personal finance. I am good at looking at the big picture, finding innovative solutions to problems, and seeing how things and people relate/affect each other. I also constantly find ways to improve situations, organization, and procedures. Finally, I am a lifelong learner and I hope I can learn from those reading my blog as much as you learn from me.
